FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD), is a promising phytocannabinoid found in medical cannabis as well as industrial hemp. It has been recognized for its benefits on human and animal health and is capable of affecting nearly every biological process via the endocannabinoid system (ECS).

What is the endocannabinoid system (ECS) ?

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a complex biochemical communication system that is located in the brain and throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems. Natural chemical messengers produced by the body that interact within the ECS are called cannabinoids. They interact with the cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2, to regulate many physiological systems in the human brain and body and help to achieve homeostasis, the body’s natural state of balance. The ECS modulates and supports balance in many important areas of health, including stress response, brain health and nerve health, immune system function, digestive health, skin and bone health, as well reproductive health and metabolic function.

what is industrial hemp?

Industrial hemp (also called agricultural hemp) is the non-intoxicating, low-THC, genetically distinct variety of the plant cannabis sativa. Section 7606 of the Farm Bill of 2014 defines industrial hemp as “the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of such plant, whether growing or not, with a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.”

What is difference between hemp and marijuana?

Both plants are Cannabis sativa, however the only the drug producing strains high in THC are considered to be marijuana, whereas plants bred to be less than 0.3% THC by dry weight are considered industrial hemp whether bred for fiber, seeds or CBD.

What is THC?

THC is the abbreviation for Tetrahydrocannabinol, one of over 100 active cannabinoids identified in cannabis, and most well known for its role as the psychoactive chemical responsible for a euphoric high. All of our hemp is grown in full compliance with the U.S. Farm Bill which authorizes American growers who meet stringent criteria to cultivate agricultural hemp containing THC content of 0.3 percent or less. Our hemp products contain trace amounts of THC (<0.3%, third-party tested in every batch we make) to stimulate the body's endocannabinoid system and cell receptors to interact with other cannabinoids--but without causing intoxicating / euphoric high effects.

Can CBD get me high?

No, it cannot. CBD is a phytocannabinoid that is non-psychoactive (it does not result in feelings of euphoria) and has a remarkable safety profile. That being said, many users report feeling subjectively “better” after using CBD, but never “high.”

I've heard CBD from industrial hemp isn't as potent is that true?

No. CBD is CBD and it does not matter where it is sourced from. The human body does not recognize whether a CBD compound was sourced from high-CBD industrial hemp or medical cannabis flower - all of the body’s biological activity, interaction with various enzymes and receptors specific to CBD remain the same. In addition, CBD is naturally synthesized the same way in both medical cannabis and industrial hemp, the difference being the presence and amount of THC.

Why should I choose CBD over medical canabis?

Every individual is different, but of all the medical compounds studies in cannabis, CBD seems to be the most promising. Whereas availability of medical cannabis varies from state to state and is still recognized federally as Schedule 1, industrial hemp is an easily accessible source of CBD in all 50 states, and federally there is not to be any interfering with interstate commerce of legally produced domestic hemp products under the 2014 Agricultural bill hemp pilot farming act.

What are Terpenes?

Terpenes are fragrant essential oils found in all kinds of plants. Terpenes are what give many plants their unique smell and taste characteristics. Like cannabinoids, terpenes are now believed to interact with the nervous and endocannabinoid system and may help to explain the benefits of aromatherapy.

What is entourage effect?

Sometimes called the “whole-plant” or “entourage effect”, cannabis offers a complex biochemical matrix of many of its constituents working synergistically. These consist of the various cannabinoids, terpenoids, flavonoids and other phytonutrients. The different rations of these compounds can account for the varying effects and benefits that can come from different whole plant extracts. By working together, therapeutic effects can be achieved using lower doses of a whole plant, full-spectrum extract compared to using an isolated compound such as pure CBD isolate.

What is the difference between hemp seed oil and hemp oil?

Hemp seed oil is a phenomenal seed oil rich in omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids, as well as chlorophyll and other phytonutrients. Hemp seed oil however only contains traces of CBD or other cannabinoids at most, whereas PCR (phytocannabinoid rich) hemp oil consists mainly of CBD, other cannabinoids, terpenes, lipids and vitamins.

What are the benefits of taking CBD oil?

Due to DSHEA guidelines, we cannot specifically state conditions CBD may affect. We encourage you to do your own research, consult with doctors, and use Pubmed.gov as a resource as newly published research is coming out in real time. In addition ProjectCBD.org is a good resource that compiles the various published research on CBD in easily searchable form. Results may vary from individual to individual but many report a better sense of well being, less anxiety or better focus or energy after using hemp derived CBD products. We encourage you to talk to your doctor first before starting any new nutritional and dietary supplement regimen.

How much hemp oil extract should I take?

The amount will vary for each individual depending on metabolism, health factors and how CB receptors are uniquely clustered in the body. For some, only a small amount is needed to achieve optimal effects, and in other cases, a higher amount may be appropriate. We recommend a low dose daily as a starting point and gradually increase usage as needed. Use the same dose for several days and observe how your body responds and adjust the amount as needed to find what feels best for you. Your physician or other healthcare provider can help guide you in determining your optimal dosage.

Do I need to be worried about drug interactions?

We encourage you to discuss any OTC and prescription drugs you use with your practitioner. Because CBD can affect certain liver metabolizing enzymes (CYP450 pathway), it may potentially affect how these drugs are metabolized. Therefore monitoring is required for individuals using CBD alongside these medications, including blood thinning medications.

Is CBD safe?

Yes. CBD is non-psychoactive and has no known toxicity. Our hemp, in particular, is thoroughly tested for purity, quality and cleanliness. Our extraction process utilizes industrial grade CO2 extraction to ensure the purest and safest CBD available. Consult with your physician or pharmacist before starting CBD or any other supplements especially if taking any medications.

Is it legal to sell hemp-derived products?

President Obama signed the Farm Bill of 2014 into law on February 7, 2014. Section 7606 of the statute, entitled “Legitimacy of Industrial Hemp Research,” states that regardless of any other federal law (including the Controlled Substances Act): “If the industrial hemp is grown or cultivated for purposes of research conducted under an agricultural pilot program or other agricultural or academic research, and the growing or cultivating of industrial hemp is allowed under the laws of the state in which such institution of higher education or State Department of Agriculture is located and such research occurs, the product can be made and manufactured and sold as part of the state’s approved hemp pilot program.”

Where is your hemp grown?

Our hemp is all grown organically in the US. Our main sources come from select farmers and processors in Oregon and Colorado, and we are expanding to source locally grown industrial hemp from Wisconsin. Our hemp is processed in GMP-compliant facilities. Each state follows their particular state’s adopted laws and regulations to ensure we are compliant with all existing laws regarding hemp extracts. The Department of Agriculture acts as the Federal agency to regulate the approved Farm Bill of 2014 and its addendums.

Why do you source your hemp from Europe instead of the United States?

In addition to wanting to support local, American jobs, the fact is domestic industrial hemp in the US has been bred using cutting edge genetics. By growing and processing domestically we can also easily ensure the quality of every step of the process from cultivation to processing.

How are your extracts made?

To make our full spectrum hemp extracts, we start with organically grown, non-GMO, Type III industrial hemp plants. Our unique extraction process combines ethanol and CO2 extraction to preserve the phytonutrients and natural molecules that exist in hemp plants without using harmful solvents. Our extracts are blended with organic coconut MCT oil as well as essential oils and terpenes for added botanical synergy.

What testing do you do on your products?

We send every batch out for independent analysis by a 3rd party, ISO-accredited laboratory that specializes in the industrial hemp and cannabis industries. -We test for every batch for identity, potency and purity. We do not skip batches. -We test for the cannabinoid profile and terpene profile so you know what beneficial constituents are in our full spectrum products. -We also test for a range of potential contaminants including heavy metals, residual solvents, pesticides, microbial and bacterial content. -Our testing confirms that our products contain <0.3% THC. All our testing results available on our website.

Are your products Organic and Vegan friendly?

All our hemp is grown organically and our MCT oil tinctures are all made with organic MCT oil and are vegan friendly.

I have a Gluten allergy. Can I take your products?

None of our products contain gluten or wheat. We are seeking GF certification currently.

Do I need to refrigerate your products?

Though not necessary for the MCT tinctures or balm, we recommend that all products be stored out of direct heat and light to maximize freshness and potency. We do recommend that the pet oil be refrigerated as it does contain cod liver oil, and though shelf stable, freshness will be enhanced by refrigeration.

Will I fail a drug test?

This is a complex question as everyone has a unique metabolism and biochemistry. All of our products contain less that 0.3% THC by weight (with some products being non-detectable). MOst people who are using only CBD products will still pass a urine drug test, but we still recommend informing your employer and healthcare practitioner if you intent to take any CBD product and have any concerns about drug testing.
